Costa Rica Naturalist Platform in Jungle

Hiking, Serendipity Style

Hiking in forest with Serendipity, crossing stream on log

You need good balance

- and a Serendipity rope

Hiking, Walking, or Bushwhacking - You Decide

Serendipity Costa Rica crossing stream on log in primary forest

Unimproved trails mean crossing rivers where there are no bridges

Hiking to escape the crowds

Serendipity has permission to enter the wilderness reserve of this private cloud forest, so no disturbance from tourists. You could easily get lost in this dense growth, and appreciate how difficult jungle exploration would have been for our forefathers.

ascending Serendipity's ancient hollow fig tree

Hiking in solitude. Only you and nature (and your Serendipity guide to be there when you need him)

Hike at a snail's pace

When your vision of hiking is more a vision of what you'll discover -- under a leaf, on a branch, in the canopy above you - then the "hike" becomes more like an immersion. With absolute control over how you are spending this day you can sit still and silent, waiting for animals to cross your path.

Climbing up inside Joseph, Serendipity's strangler fig

Walking through a small town to stock up on local snacks counts as hiking, too

Use your legs like the Costa Ricans do - for shopping

Simply walking through a small town proves interesting. Small shops and open air fruit and vegetable stands are a way of life in most of Costa Rica. Cars and bet up old pickups are parked alongside horses on market days.

Serendipity Costa Rica - start of Cabecar Trail

When you hike along side your pack horses you know you are in for a true wilderness adventure

Hiking-Paddling-Swimming-Camping

Costa Rica's true frontiers are the mountain jungles, inhabited by people who speak no Spanish much less English. The whole route takes 4 days, 6 guides, 2 4x4's, and 7 pack horses. Ask us about the Cabecar Trail.

Serendipity Costa Rica hike near top of volcano, above clouds

When you want to see the world from above the clouds - climb a volcano

Ascend and enjoy the ever-changing view around you

With 19 volcanoes, most of which have been active within the last 100 years, there's always someplace we can rise above the clouds and breathe air so pure it smells sweet.

You sort of wonder if there are Greek gods up here with you.

What we won't do is compromise on elements that create an unacceptable risk.

While we're at it, let's talk about Risk. It's one of the most important aspects of any adventure. We're proud of our record, and our commitment to setting the standard in Costa Rica for minimizing risk.

It's time to call us.

Quote:

What made our experience beyond any else we have done is the guides. We hoped they would get us to our adventures and hoped they would teach us/ support us during the adventures. They did this with amazing competence and thoroughness. Our trip was enriched by their personal qualities, experiences, knowledge and passionate connections to Costa Rica-- that each guide shared with us. The personal connections, knowledge and insight I gained on this trip are life changing.
